Samsung Galaxy S4
With the S3 being phenomenal success, many had high expectations for the S4 and it is fair to say that Samsung did not disappoint with its latest flagship model. The device comes with a 5-inch display (with a whopping 1080 x 1920 resolution), a 13MP camera, a quad-core Cortex-A15 processor (supplemented by a quad-core Cortex-A7 processor), 2GB of RAM, up to 64GB of storage and the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system. With specs like this, the easier question to ask is what this smartphone can’t do. Thanks to the high pixel density on its spacious screen, surfing the web and watching movies on the device was an absolute delight.
The list of Samsung-exclusive features on the phone is long. For instance, when watching videos or movies, the video can automatically pause when you look away from the screen and resume when you eyes are back looking at the screen. The image quality and camera features on the S4 are also extremely impressive to say the least, like the animated photo mode that allows you to create harry-potter-like, moving photos at a press of a button. There is also the IR blaster feature that allows you to use the phone as a remote control for almost any TV and video player sets. The list of unique and interesting features on the Samsung Galaxy S4 is long and is an entire article on its own. For now, it is sufficient to say that this is easily one of the best smartphone models ever made.
Motorola Droid Maxx
Although they are light years behind the commercial success of Samsung Galaxy S phones, the Motorola Droid smartphone range have been considered as one of the best in the market for quite sometime now. So how did the Droid Maxx made its way to this list? Well firstly, it currently has one of the best smartphone specs in the market, packing in a 5-inch (720 x 1280 resolution) screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4Pro processor, quad-core Adreno 320 graphics, a 10MP camera, 2GB of RAM and 32GB for storage. It runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. As many of you might already now, Motorola is now a Google company so you can expect the company’s devices to be much more integrated with Google products such as the Android OS and the Google Now feature.
For instance, the Google Now feature can be voice activated by just speaking the words ‘OK Google Now’. There are also a variety of cool features such as the camera app that can be motion activated by shaking the phone up and down in a twisting motion. Another highlight on this phone is its amazing battery life. The battery is rated to last up to 48 hours of continuous ‘mixed usage’. Various tests across the internet has confirmed that the battery life on the Droid Maxx is way ahead of any of its competitors. Design wise, the Droid Maxx is built pretty much like the man-phone with its rugged looks. The back of the phone has a Kevlar finish that is resistant to smudges and scratches. Some of the downsides to this phone includes the fact that it is a little on the heavy side. It is also relatively expensive compared to its competitors in its class.
