The Coleman Mini Xtreme is a small 3.8 x 1.0 x 2.8 inch, 5MP camera that is waterproof for up to 10 feet underwater and freeze-proof to 14°F. Its compact body allows it to be mounted on your helmet, bicycle or the end of a pole. Think of it as a very cheap, budget-friendly Go Pro camera. If you are looking for a cheap underwater camera with a famous brand attached to it, it doesn’t get any cheaper than this. You can be the proud owner of the Coleman Mini Xtreme for under $45.

Amongst the major camera brands, Nikon is a relatively newcomer in the underwater camera market. For a newbie, judging from the reviews, Nikon has done pretty well for themselves when it comes to waterproof cameras. The Nikon COOLPIX S30 is an entry-level model that comes with a 10.1MP image sensor, 3x optical zoom, a 2.7-inch LCD display and is waterproof for up to 10 feet underwater. It is also shockproof for drops from up to 2.6 feet in height. The image quality and HD video (720p) recording quality is pretty decent for a camera of this class. Overall, it is a affordable and very fun camera for family outings and non-rigorous outdoor use. You can get one of these at around $88 each.

Fujifilm is a veteran when it comes to making compact waterproof cameras. They have been making compact underwater cameras for many years now and their experience in this fields shows in the Fujifilm FinePix XP20. The XP 20 is shockproof for up to 5 feet drops and waterproof for up to 16.4 feet underwater. It comes with a 14MP image sensor and 5x optical zoom. Did we mention it is also freeze-proof, dust-proof and sand-proof? Overall, the features and specs on the XP20 is comparable to waterproof cameras that costs two or three times more. Because of that, this is easily the single best underwater camera model that you can get under a budget. If you search hard enough, you can get your hands on one these for $99 or less.
