Burglars usually stay away from homes with guard dogs for obvious reasons hence having guard dogs as pets always enhances a home’s security. If you are unwilling to commit to the well being of another dog for the next 15 years, the next best thing to do would be to get a barking dog alarm. These alarms are designed to set off through movement and the alarm comes in the form of a ferocious dog barking. In many ways, this may work even better than a regular alarm sound. These alarms come in many forms, from ones that you can hang on your doorknob to waterproof varieties that you can hide in your garden. They cost anywhere from $10 to $100 each.

Sometimes the most obvious, exposed places can be the safes. No one would ever think that valuables could be stored in the kitchen, amongst soup cans. Camouflage storage can be extremely effective in storing your valuables, more so that safe boxes if you choose the right one. They are also extremely cheap and you can even make some yourself if you have the time.

Doorstop alarms are basically doorstops with an alarm built into them. To use it, wedge it under the door from the inside and it will trigger off an alarm when someone tries to open that door. You could buy a couple of these to set it around your home before you go to bed and you are set! Besides being an excellent home security gadget, its small size also makes it an excellent personal security device when you travel. These little devices usually costs less than $10 each.

IP Cameras

Yes IP cameras have been around for quite sometime now but many are not aware of how cheap they have become. Did you know that you could buy one of these for under $50? For home security, I personally feel that IP cameras are the best choice because they are so easy to install and use. All this camera needs is a power outlet and a smartphone/tablet/computer. That’s it! These little cameras can be remotely controlled using your smartphone or computer and usually comes with built-in microphones, motion sensors and even speakers! The camera can be configured in a wide variety of settings. You can choose to record all the video footages on a cloud server, or just set it to send you a notification whenever it senses any movements. They also come with infrared lights to enable footage recording in low light conditions. Once again, it is an absolute steal to get all of these for under $50! The ones from bigger, more reputable brands would cost a little more.

If IP cameras and alarm systems prove to be too much of a hassle, you can opt to install some fake surveillance cameras around your house. They key to using fake security cameras is for it to be noticed so you would want to install them in places that make them easy to spot. They are usually battery operated and come with build-in blinking LED lights to make sure that they are noticed.
