Shhh… Can you hear the excited shrieks of hundreds of designers and engineers all over the world? The 3Doodler 3D pen would have to be the hottest thing to hit the design scene since Adobe Photoshop. With it, you can now ‘draw’ to life 3D models with few strokes of a pen.
Very often, it is the simplest of ideas that revolutionizes an entire industry. From the looks of it, the device resembles a mini glue gun. A small plastic strip is inserted to the rear end of the pen. I reckon the pen heats up the strip, softening it enough to be pliable so that it can be molded.
Imagine the uses of this technology! For one, designers and and architects can instantly conjure up a realistic model of their product as oppose to a flat 2D or an on-screen 3D model. Artists too now have a new medium to work with. The company behind the 3Doodler also states that the 3D pen can be used to personalize accessories such as smartphone covers, keychais, laptops; basically anything that the plastic would adhere to.
